Help Me Find a New Job Title Challenge

June 1, 2010

So, as online and social media marketing continue to evolve, so should I and my role.  I was brought into IQPC as the Director, Online Community and Portal Development.  The leadership at IQPC had a vision and I was fortunate to take part in the development of this new division. In just shy of 2 years we’ve launched 8 portals and reached over 2 million people. An example of one these portals is in the customer management and call center space where we cover industry leaders such as Zappos.

But now I feel my role has evolved from launching these online portals and communities to building and fostering customer engagement.

Hi Jaime- When you boil it down I think it is all still marketing and sales (u say “all the while focusing on conversions” which I interpret to mean leads/sales)….and its online…..so how about Director Online Marketing and Sales. Funny thing….I am going through another title change as well and can not seem to figure out a short title that encompasses what I do, which is great because it means I am exploring new territory, developing new business ideas, etc….all good. Take care, Brad

Brad, I think you’re spot on. In one of my previous posts I mention how even with online marketing, many traditional marketing principals still apply, and it’s simply the medium that has changed. We can’t forget that we still need to add value to our customers.

Great you have the power to choose your own title!

I would say Director of Online Marketing & Customer Experience/Director of Online Marketing & User Experience

Now can I please change mine to “Marmite Munching Marketer”?

I think that Director of Online Marketing and Sales is a good choice. You are still dealing with people who have the same needs for information and the fundamentals remain. You don’t want to create such a small segment to be king of – that when all moves on, the question is – well now what can he do? I was thinking more about VP of Marketing – sounds good to me.

Thanks Carolyn. I’ll definitely work on the VP part!

Between this blog, LinkedIn, Twitter and the messages I got, Director of Sales and Marketing was the overwhelming favorite. It makes complete sense since. As I’ve mentioned before, digital and social media marketing are just one piece of the pie. The magic happens when you look at the entire marketing mix and really make it work together.

Thanks to all that made suggestions!
